The Stonewall Group was founded on 22 May 2015. We are an LGBT+ organization based in the Wielkopolska region.
Our association is for people who support equal rights for same-sex couples as well as combating discrimination and violence. We actively participate in a number of initiatives focusing on the fight for human rights.
how we operateThe Stonewall Group is an association known for, among other things, organising the Poznań Pride Week festival – the biggest LGBT+ event in Poland after the Warsaw Equality Parade. Traditionally, the Equality March is a culmination of a week full of events. In 2019, a record number of 13,000 people participated in it.
The Stonewall Group works every day to improve the lives of Polish LGBT+ people.
We provide free legal and psychological help for LGBT+ people and their families.
We organise the Summer Equality Academy during which we visit smaller towns to educate about the LGBT+ community and equality.
We organise and conduct training sessions and workshops about equality for schools and businesses. In 2020, we trained as many as 100 teachers who work with young people in Poznań.
We care about LGBT+ visibility in culture. We produce stage performances, cooperate with local theatres, and support drag performers.
We organise free testing for sexually transmitted diseases. We promote preventive sexual health care and sexual health awareness.
We run a YouTube channel about sex education from the perspective of LGBT+ issues.
We actively lobby for implementing LGBT+ demands on a local and country level.
We run our own businesses – Out&Proud, our official shop with rainbow gadgets, and the Lokum Stonewall drink bar. Thanks to this, we are able to fund our activities.
what the LGBT+ community fights for
In March 2019, LGBT+ Congress was organised in Warsaw by the Love Does Not Exclude Association (Stowarzyszenie Miłość Nie Wyklucza) with the support from ILGA Europe. Twenty seven LGBT+ groups and organisations from all over Poland participated in the Congress. They adopted a Declaration which enumerated the most important needs of the LGBT+ community and proposed specific legal solutions addressing these needs.
Introduction of full marriage equality in Poland with the possibility to adopt children.
Passing an act about gender recognition which ensures a quick, transparent, and accessible administrative procedure for gender recognition based on self-determination.
Updating the Penal Code by introducing the definition of a hate crime and including acts committed because of sexual orientation and gender identity into that definition
Introducing real legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics.
Banning any and all conversion therapy by law (e.g. “treating” homosexuality, among others).
Introducing competent anti-discrimination education to schools.
